What is the It Deck?
There are no instructions to creativity. There never has been.
the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work.
We've all got it. Yep, and we all find ways to use it in our everyday lives, our work and our play.
The It Deck isn't meant to give you directions or prompts to command your creativity or imagination. It is a tool meant to encourage your mind to look at problems through a completely different slant. Shaking things up, so to speak.
If your mind has to solve a problem it doesn't fundamentally understand, it is put into a mode that allows a more free-form approach to the problem. Which might give you solutions you may not have thought of in a direct line of thinking.
The cards themselves are a little whimsical, a little funny, a little irreverent- well, they're a little bit of a lot of things. The idea is when confronted with a problem you need to solve creatively, you would draw a card and attempt to assign it a context that fits your problem. Didn't work? Well, draw another. Use it individually, or in conjunction with previously drawn cards, and see how it interacts with your problem.
Not only can the text be interacted with, but you're expected to interact with the image. The action in the card is just as important as the text. How do the two relate? What's the connection?
The It Deck isn't a deck of cards with pre-built ideas, it's a deck with the stuff ideas are made of. It's up to you to put it together into something meaningful. Because of this, you are free to use the cards in any way that fits your individual creative process. The It Deck never removes the Creative from their own creativity.
In a nutshell, the It Deck is whatever you want it to be. Whatever you can imagine.
